Giampaolo says AC Milan can’t do without Krzysztof Piatek upfront

December 2nd, 2019 — 5:45am

AC Milan manager Marco Giampaolo has said that Krzysztof Piatek remains the Rossoneri’s prolific striker and the club can’t do without him despite his average start to the season. The Poland international scored a combined 30 goals for Genoa and AC Milan respectively during the previous campaign but he has struggled this term with just two goals to date.

Despite this, Giampaolo has continued to keep the faith in the striker and speaking in a press conference, he said: “Milan can’t do without their most prolific striker, even though he has failed to score several times this season. Otherwise, who will score? I have to trust Kris, though it’s obvious over the course of a long season that he might have to be rested at times. He must stay in and suffer and take responsibility. The most important players must stay in the trenches.”

Lewandowski aiming to play at the top level for another four years

September 28th, 2019 — 4:38am

Poland international Robert Lewandowski believes he can play at the top level for the next four seasons without dropping in terms of the performances. The striker has been with Bayern for the past five seasons and during this period, he has been a consistent performer with nearly 200 goals for the club across all competitions.

Speaking to Bundesliga.com, Lewandowski insisted that he has no age-related concerns at the moment and he can produce the same level of performance for another four years at the least, he said: “I want to play for at least another four years. I don’t feel like I’m about to turn 31. I’ll try to make the most of my time, and that means keeping myself in the best shape possible. A football career doesn’t last that long. Everything I do should help me to keep playing.”

Lewandowski has been one of the fittest players in the Bundesliga and he has managed 30 or more appearances in each of the past nine seasons in the league. As such, the marksman has been blessed by the fact that he has not suffered any major injury setbacks and hopefully, he can sustain the same level of fitness as he enters the backend of his playing career.

Meanwhile, Bayern have already landed a couple of major purchases with World Cup-winning duo Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard making the switch to the club. Still, there are concerns for the team further up the field especially in the attack, where they are yet to cover up the void left by the departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Leroy Sane from Manchester City has been earmarked as the prime target for the Bavarian giants but so far, the Germany international has given no indication that he would favour a return to the German top-flight this summer. Sane had a tough second half to the previous season with Manchester City and he managed just five league starts between January and May.

Fortuna Dusseldorf striker Dawid Kownacki has heaped praise on compatriot Robert Lewandowski by stating that he is one of the best marksmen in the world. The 22-year-old has played alongside the Bayern Munich striker at the international stage for Poland and he has spoken positively about the quality of the country’s captain.

He told Bundesliga.com: “He’s one of the best strikers in the world. Every season he scores a lot of goals. He’s a very good striker. I’ve played with him on the national team so I know him very well. I saw him on the training ground and in the game. He’s very strong, he plays well with his back to goal, but he’s also the player who works hardest for the team, especially in the national team. He sometimes plays like a number nine, but sometimes he plays like a number ten, takes the ball and controls the situation. He’s a very good player and in the national team he’s our captain. He works very hard.”
