Clayton Blackmore urges Manchester United to sign Robert Lewandowski

Former Manchester United star Clayton Blackmore believes the Red Devils should consider the signing of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich. The Poland international has been in sensational form with 27 goals from just 21 appearances this term and he recently went through a run of 13 matches, where he found the net.

Speaking on The Star, Blackmore said that the Red Devils are in need of an experienced head to play alongside the youngsters and a player of Lewandowski’s calibre would perfectly fit the bill, he told: “They need to get a top striker who the players can learn from. I’d like to see Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski come in. He’s 31 although still scores goals for fun.

“I’d also be happy if Zlatan Ibrahimovic came back. We got rid of Romelu Lukaku to Inter and that was a big decision. For me, Solskjaer now has to replace him. “He should have replaced him in the summer and Lukaku probably shouldn’t have been sold if we didn’t have someone lined up. “We need a top striker who’s going to help out the kids.”

Lewandowski has flirted with the prospect of leaving Bayern over the past few years but the Bavarian giants have clearly stated that the Pole remains a crucial player for them. As a result, any deal appears improbable at the turn of the year and that could remain the case next summer with the marksman having more than three years remaining on his current contract.

United have found form in the scoring department over the past few games but they have been let down with the defensive facet of their game. They have conceded five goals during the past two matches against Sheffield United and Aston Villa, where they have settled for disappointing draws. The Red Devils have a tough schedule ahead with back-to-back games against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
