December 13th, 2018 — 6:37am

Poland international Robert Lewandowski has urged his Bayern Munich teammates to end the year on a high by winning their remaining five games in the Bundesliga. The reigning German champions are currently nine points behind table-toppers Borussia Dortmund this term but Lewandowski believes his team can hunt down on the deficit with the perfect end to the calendar year.

Speaking to, the marksman highlighted that Bayern are not in the best of positions when it comes to the league but they have the chance to put things right by going on a long-winning run, he said: “We have to try and win all our Bundesliga games, and then we’ll see how the table looks. Even though we’re not in a good position, we can’t allow ourselves to think that it’s all over. During the winter break, we can talk over what is possible and see how many points we are behind. Anything can happen in the Rückrunde. We mustn’t think about that, but think first about our games. If we win the last five matches before the winter break, something good can happen.”

Lewandowski Loss Is Not A Detriment

August 20th, 2014 — 2:23pm

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski has claimed that the loss of Polish striker Robert Lewandowski is not significantly detrimental to the teamas chances of being successful once again. Dortmund have been one of the major surprises from German football in the last decade. Apart from beating Bayern Munich twice to the league title two years ago, they have also reached the Champions League final. Much of this success has been down towards the goalscoring exploits of Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.

The 25-year-old decided to end his spell at Dortmund, who signed him for around a 4 million in 2010, by joining Bayern Munich on a free transfer. However, he has allowed his former club to prepare for life without him by announcing his decision to join Bayern Munich several months ago. Despite transfer rumours surrounding their last remaining stars in the form of Marco Reus, Dortmund are confident that they can reclaim the league title from Bayern Munich. This is the opinion of winger Blaszczykowski, who was not a regular first-team player last season due to injury.

He made just nine appearances in all competitions and scored one goal. His return will be a major boost to Jurgen Klopp. Dortmund have signed strikers like Adrian Ramos and Ciro Immobile in order to replace Lewandowski.

“It’s normal in this business that some top players leave but Borussia still lives on because new good players arrive. Everyone decides for themselves what is right for him. Nuri Sahin, Shinji Kagawa, Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski now have left Dortmund but Borussia but still lives on, because every year good new players have come. We will be helping Adrian Ramos, Ciro Immobile, Matthias Ginter and Ji so that they can be integrated quickly and we find ourselves as a team,” said the 28-year-old winger.

Madrid Moves To Sign Oblak

July 22nd, 2014 — 10:11am

Atletico Madrid have moved in to sign Slovenian international Jan Oblak as the replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who has returned to Chelsea after his three-year loan spell came to an end. Atletico Madrid have been fortunate to have a goalkeeper like Courtois in the last few years. Despite being only 22 years old, he is regarded as one of the best in the world right now. He has blossomed since coming to Atletico on a loan deal in 2011. His parent club, Chelsea, decided to recall him and they plan to replace Petr Cech with the young Courtois.

As a result, Atletico have been in the market for a new goalkeeper. They have brought in Slovenian star Oblak for a fee of around A? 13 million. They have been able to spend this figure after the recent sales of players like Diego Costa and Filipe Luis to Chelsea for around A? 52 million in total. In addition to this, they are also reportedly looking at Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku. They have strengthened the forward line up a after the loss of Diego Costa and David Villa a with the signing of Mario Mandzukic from Bayern Munich.

Oblak is set to sign a six-year contract after passing a medical. The 21-year-old joins the club from Benfica where he was named as the top goalkeeper in Portugal. “He is a keeper with a lot of quality and a big future who will offer us a lot,a? said the clubas sporting director Jose Luis Caminero. Atletico already signed another top goalkeeper in the form of Miguel Angel Moya. However, both these players will be competing for a first-team spot. Diego Simeoneas team managed to win the league title last season, while they reached the Champions League final as well. The Spanish league starts in a few weeks.

Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale has said that his teammates should be wary of the threat posed by Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, who is regarded as one of the best strikers in the world right now. The Polish international missed the first leg between the two clubs in the Champions League quarter-finals due to suspension. He will return for the second leg, but it is almost of no use for the German outfit, as they are on the brink of being knocked out of the competition. They suffered a 3-0 defeat in the first leg.

This is almost ended any hopes of reaching the semifinals for the second consecutive season. Borussia Dortmund managed to beat Real Madrid in the semifinals last season and it was largely down to the exploits of Lewandowski, who scored all four goals for Dortmund in the tie. Ahead of the second leg, Gareth Bale, who became the worldas most expensive transfer at A? 86 million, says that Lewandowski still has the quality to impact on the tie, but he believes that Madrid have enough quality and advantage to be able to see out the threat.

Lewandowski has agreed a move to Bayern Munich in the summer and this could be his last European appearance for Dortmund.

a?He is a great player and has been showing that over the last few years, but we have to concentrate on our own job, like we did in the first leg, defending well. You can’t do things any differently when you come up against other good attacking players. We have to defend well and I hope the team is at its best for this game. We are focussed on getting our revenge in the Champions League,a? said Bale ahead of the second leg on Tuesday night. The first leg was at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is on course to seal an exit from the club after failing to agree a new contract with the Premier league outfit. The Polish goalkeeper is out of contract at the end of the season and he looks unhappy after his failure to dislodge Wojciech Szczesny from the number one position. Fabianski was an Arsenal regular a few years ago, but some high-profile mistakes led to the inclusion of Szczesny into the team. Since then, he has struggled to replace his international teammate at the club. The 28-year-old has been offered a new contract by Arsenal, but it is understood that he has rejected it in favour of a move to a foreign club.

He believes that a change will help him establish himself in the national team since he is at the perfect age in his career to be the first choice for the national team. Poland have failed to qualify for the World Cup 2014, but the increase of participating teams to 24 is expected to improve their chances of qualifying to the Euro 2016. Szczesny currently holds the first-team spot for the national team, but Fabianski will be looking into a possible spot in the team by Euro 2016. He has been impressive for Arsenal in recent weeks due to Szczesnyas absence.

“I don’t think I have to prove anything. Like I have said many times, I am just enjoying the games and trying to help the team in every situation they expect me to help. With the penalties, it is either you get it or not, and I was lucky so I am pleased with that,” said the 28-year-old, who played against Bayern Munich in the 1-1 draw since Szczesny was sent off in the first leg with a straight red card.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has named Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher in the squad for the friendly match against Poland next month. After failing to qualify for the World Cup 2014, both teams will be concentrating upon building the team for the European Championship qualifying stages. The draw for the competition will be announced next week. Despite having several stars like Robert Lewandowski, Poland failed to make it to Brazil. Pressure is on their manager Waldemar Fornalik to deliver in this encounter.

Fletcher, who has missed the last two years of action due to an injury, recently returned to Manchester United’s first team. At 30 years of age, he still has a lot of time left in football. The Scotland captain is regarded as one of the finest players for the national team. Strachan said that it is extremely good news for Scotland to have Fletcher back in the squad. The missed him heavily during the World Cup qualifying campaign. The 30-year-old is one of the highly experienced players within the squad at dealing with top level games.

Strachan has said that he will make sure that the team is in top notch condition by the time the qualifying campaign for Euro 2016 kicks off. Scotland have failed to qualify for recent major tournaments. Their last appearance in a major tournament was the 1998 World Cup that was held in France. Neighbouring countries like Republic of Ireland have featured in major tournaments like the Euro 2012, which raises the pressure on Scotland even further.

“It was wonderful over the Christmas period to see him back playing football. We have got to take it a stage further. I’ve seen him playing and he has lost none of his enthusiasm, which he will never lose. To have him back in the squad is terrific,” Strachan said.
