LEWANDOWSKI RUN RIOT AGAINST BENFICA

Poland national team skipper Robert Lewandowski showed his quality once again after he scored three times in the 5-2 rout of Benfica in the Champions League. The Poland international ran riot as he scored a hattrick to lead Bayern Munich to a convincing win over the team from Portugal.


Bayern Munich have been one of the best teams in the Champions League this season and they have a perfect record in Group E. The Bavarian giants have won all their four group games this season. The German champions made it four straight wins with the big win over Benfica on Tuesday night.

The Bavarian giants raced into a two-goal lead within the space of six minutes through Poland striker Robert Lewandowski and German international Serge Gnabry. Lewandowski opened the floodgate of goals on 26 minutes before ex-Arsenal winger Gnabry added a second Bayern Munich goal just after the half hour mark.

Benfica pulled one goal back courtesy Morato on 38 minutes for a 2-1 scoreline in favour of Bayern Munich at the interval. Former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane helped Bayern Munich regain their two-goal lead at the start of the second half.

It took Bayern Munich just four minutes to score the first goal of the second half. Lewandowski scored the second of his three goals just past the hour mark to extend the lead for his team. Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez got the deficit back to two with the second Benfica goal on 74 minutes before Lewandowski restored the three-goal advantage nine minutes from time. The three goals from Poland international Lewandowski was the difference between a point and three points. He now has 81 goals in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich are one of several teams with a perfect record in the Champions League group stage. The others are Juventus, Ajax Amsterdam and Liverpool.
