EURO 2020: POLAND TARGET KNOCKOUT STAGE
Poland have the knockout stage in their sights in Group E at the ongoing Euro 2020 tournament but they have to beat Sweden in their final game in the group to ensure they take one of the 16 spots available.
Unlike Sweden, Poland don’t have many options to seal a last 16 place at the Euro 2020 tournament other than a win in their final Group E encounter with the Swedish team. Poland left themselves with a lot to doafter picking up a solitary point in their first two group matches. Poland started as favourites in their opening game against Slovakia only to record adisappointing 2-1 losswith ten men. Poland played the majority of the second half with ten men after midfielder Grezgorz Krychowiak was sent off. In their second match, Poland came from a goal down to earn a valuable point in Seville via a 1-1 draw. Juventus striker Alvaro Morata gave the Spaniards a first half lead before the strike from Bayern Munich talisman Robert Lewandowski earned a share of the spoils for Poland.
The point earned against Spain means that a win for Poland over Sweden would be enough to secure a knockout stage berth from Group E. In the other group game, Spain (2 points) take on Slovakia (3 points) needing a win to move into the next round, while the Slovaks only need a point to achieve the same target.
