Madrid Moves To Sign Oblak

Atletico Madrid have moved in to sign Slovenian international Jan Oblak as the replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who has returned to Chelsea after his three-year loan spell came to an end. Atletico Madrid have been fortunate to have a goalkeeper like Courtois in the last few years. Despite being only 22 years old, he is regarded as one of the best in the world right now. He has blossomed since coming to Atletico on a loan deal in 2011. His parent club, Chelsea, decided to recall him and they plan to replace Petr Cech with the young Courtois.

As a result, Atletico have been in the market for a new goalkeeper. They have brought in Slovenian star Oblak for a fee of around A? 13 million. They have been able to spend this figure after the recent sales of players like Diego Costa and Filipe Luis to Chelsea for around A? 52 million in total. In addition to this, they are also reportedly looking at Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku. They have strengthened the forward line up a�� after the loss of Diego Costa and David Villa a�� with the signing of Mario Mandzukic from Bayern Munich.

Oblak is set to sign a six-year contract after passing a medical. The 21-year-old joins the club from Benfica where he was named as the top goalkeeper in Portugal. “He is a keeper with a lot of quality and a big future who will offer us a lot,a�? said the cluba��s sporting director Jose Luis Caminero. Atletico already signed another top goalkeeper in the form of Miguel Angel Moya. However, both these players will be competing for a first-team spot. Diego Simeonea��s team managed to win the league title last season, while they reached the Champions League final as well. The Spanish league starts in a few weeks.
