Poland have the knockout stage in their sights in Group E at the ongoing Euro 2020 tournament but they have to beat Sweden in their final game in the group to ensure they take one of the 16 spots available.

Sweden are in a fantastic position to seal a place in the round of 16 but the Polish team has a lot of work to do to get to that stage. A point for Sweden against Poland would be enough to seal one of the top two spots that would guarantee knockout stage qualification from Group E. Also, at least a one-goal defeat for Sweden against Poland would be enough to take them through as one of the best losers if they don’t finish in the top two spots in their group.

The 32-year-old Poland national team player left it late until the final minute of the final game of the season against Augsburg to break the 40-goal Bundesliga record set by Muller during the 1971/72 season. Choupo Moting says Lewandowski is better than Neymar and Kylian Mbappe

February 17th, 2021 — 6:42am

Bayern Munich forward Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting has said that Robert Lewandowski is currently ahead of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe as he has the killer instinct in front of goal. The Poland international was in stupendous form for the Bavarian giants with 55 goals from just 47 appearances and that eventually contributed to the club winning the Champions League after a seven-year wait.

The Pole would have been the odds-on favourite to win the Ballon d’Or this year, but that won’t happen after France Football cancelled the annual event citing unsuitable conditions due to the coronavirus. Still, he has earned recognition by being named the UEFA Footballer of the Year and he has been tipped to bag FIFA’s Best Player award as well. Continue reading »

Poland Secures Top Position in UEFA Nations League Table

November 17th, 2020 — 11:58am

Due to the double strike of the captain Robert Lewandowski, Poland beat Bosnia 3-0 and has secured their place at the top of the group table. They have scored 7 points from their 4 matches so far with two wins, one draw and a defeat. In the same group, Poland has been followed by Italy with 6 points to secure their place in the knockout stages. All the teams will have to play 6 matches. Poland had to face a defeat against the Netherlands with a result of 1-0 in their very first match. But since then they have displayed outstanding performance in the field and defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina in both the home and away matches and drew with a much stronger side Italy to secure their top position in the league table. The team is giving credit to the captain who has played outstanding football in these matches.

Robert Lewandowski led the team from the front as he is the captain of the side and has the responsibility to take the team to the next level of the league. He has shown intense predatory instincts in the game against Bosnia and Herzegovina and put the ball into the back of the net twice. In both the matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland players left no chances for the opponents to trouble them.

Lewandowski aiming to play at the top level for another four years

September 28th, 2019 — 4:38am

Poland international Robert Lewandowski believes he can play at the top level for the next four seasons without dropping in terms of the performances. The striker has been with Bayern for the past five seasons and during this period, he has been a consistent performer with nearly 200 goals for the club across all competitions.

Speaking to Bundesliga.com, Lewandowski insisted that he has no age-related concerns at the moment and he can produce the same level of performance for another four years at the least, he said: “I want to play for at least another four years. I don’t feel like I’m about to turn 31. I’ll try to make the most of my time, and that means keeping myself in the best shape possible. A football career doesn’t last that long. Everything I do should help me to keep playing.”

Lewandowski has been one of the fittest players in the Bundesliga and he has managed 30 or more appearances in each of the past nine seasons in the league. As such, the marksman has been blessed by the fact that he has not suffered any major injury setbacks and hopefully, he can sustain the same level of fitness as he enters the backend of his playing career.

Meanwhile, Bayern have already landed a couple of major purchases with World Cup-winning duo Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard making the switch to the club. Still, there are concerns for the team further up the field especially in the attack, where they are yet to cover up the void left by the departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Leroy Sane from Manchester City has been earmarked as the prime target for the Bavarian giants but so far, the Germany international has given no indication that he would favour a return to the German top-flight this summer. Sane had a tough second half to the previous season with Manchester City and he managed just five league starts between January and May.
