Kownacki says Robert Lewandowski is one of the world’s best strikers

June 10th, 2019 — 2:45pm

Fortuna Dusseldorf striker Dawid Kownacki has heaped praise on compatriot Robert Lewandowski by stating that he is one of the best marksmen in the world. The 22-year-old has played alongside the Bayern Munich striker at the international stage for Poland and he has spoken positively about the quality of the country’s captain.

He told Bundesliga.com: “He’s one of the best strikers in the world. Every season he scores a lot of goals. He’s a very good striker. I’ve played with him on the national team so I know him very well. I saw him on the training ground and in the game. He’s very strong, he plays well with his back to goal, but he’s also the player who works hardest for the team, especially in the national team. He sometimes plays like a number nine, but sometimes he plays like a number ten, takes the ball and controls the situation. He’s a very good player and in the national team he’s our captain. He works very hard.”

Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac has expressed his delight after the Bavarian giants secured a comfortable 5-0 triumph over Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena. The Bundesliga holders have been put under immense pressure with the challenge from Dortmund, but they managed to leapfrog their rivals to the top of the table with a resounding win against them.

Robert Lewandowski urges Bayern Munich to end 2018 on a high

December 13th, 2018 — 6:37am

Poland international Robert Lewandowski has urged his Bayern Munich teammates to end the year on a high by winning their remaining five games in the Bundesliga. The reigning German champions are currently nine points behind table-toppers Borussia Dortmund this term but Lewandowski believes his team can hunt down on the deficit with the perfect end to the calendar year.

Speaking to Bundesliga.com, the marksman highlighted that Bayern are not in the best of positions when it comes to the league but they have the chance to put things right by going on a long-winning run, he said: “We have to try and win all our Bundesliga games, and then we’ll see how the table looks. Even though we’re not in a good position, we can’t allow ourselves to think that it’s all over. During the winter break, we can talk over what is possible and see how many points we are behind. Anything can happen in the Rückrunde. We mustn’t think about that, but think first about our games. If we win the last five matches before the winter break, something good can happen.”
