Niko Kovac impressed with professionalism of Bayern Munich duo

Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac has been pleased with the performances of Robert Lewandowski and Jerome Boateng during the opening stages of the ongoing campaign. The duo were heavily tipped to part ways with the club during the backend of the summer transfer window but ultimately, they decided to stay put for different reasons.

Speaking in a news conference, Kovac hailed the impact of Lewandowski and Boateng since the season started and praised them as ‘great professionals’ on the playing field, he said: “[Boateng and Lewandowski] are great professionals, world-class players. They know what they have to do. That they play so well does not surprise me. That’s what I hoped for and expected.”

Lewandowski has been yearning for a fresh challenge away from the Bavarian giants over the past couple of summer transfer windows and he appeared very much certain to leave the club during the summer after super-agent Pini Zahavi publicly admitted that the Poland international could make way from the Allianz Arena.

However, the Bayern Munich hierarchy were never really keen on offloading their leading marksman from the off and ultimately, the Pole had to give up on the prospect of leaving the club and commit to them for the ongoing campaign. On the contrary, Jerome Boateng was supposedly freed up to join one of Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester United during the summer with the latter being deemed favourites.

However, the World Cup winner had a sudden change of thought and he eventually decided to stick with the German champions with the Red Devils not being up to his expectations. Bayern have made another excellent start to the season with 12 points from their opening four matches and based on the current form, they appear favourites to secure the Bundesliga crown for the seventh straight campaign and the first under Kovac.
