Lewandowski open to working alongside Sane

Poland striker Robert Lewandowski has said that he would welcome the possibility of working with Leroy Sane at Bayern Munich next season. The Germany international was tipped to join the Bavarian giants last summer but the deal fell through after the attacker picked up a serious knee injury during the Community Shield encounter against Liverpool.

As a result, Sane has not made a single competitive appearance for the Premier League holders this term but he is expected to feature, suppose the season resumes after the coronavirus shutdown. Amidst this, there has been constant speculation regarding his future with his contract expiring next summer and Bayern have been fancied to renew their transfer interest.

Speaking to Spox, Lewandowski said that he can’t get much into the speculation but described the German as a great player with great skills. He added that the former Schalke 04 graduate would suit the club’s style of play and provide new solutions for next season, he told: “There is a lot of speculation. I can only say that he is a great player with great skills who can harmonise very well with his team-mates. Not just in the Premier League or the Champions League, we’ve already seen what he could do at Schalke. He could certainly help us find new solutions in our game.”

Sane has been with the Citizens since the summer of 2017 when he made the move from Schalke for around £38m. He has contributed 39 goals and 45 assists from 134 games during this period and has emerged as one of the Premier League’s leading wingers. Bayern are understood to be planning a bid of around £35m for his signature but that is expected to be rejected by the Citizens.

The Mancunian giants have already placed a contract offer on the table and reports suggest that they could be prepared to lose the player for free in 13 months’ time, suppose they don’t receive a significant transfer offer from Bayern or any other club. Pep Guardiola’s side want at least £70m for Sane despite the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
