Bayern Munich forward Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting has said that Robert Lewandowski is currently ahead of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe as he has the killer instinct in front of goal. The Poland international was in stupendous form for the Bavarian giants with 55 goals from just 47 appearances and that eventually contributed to the club winning the Champions League after a seven-year wait.

The Pole would have been the odds-on favourite to win the Ballon d’Or this year, but that won’t happen after France Football cancelled the annual event citing unsuitable conditions due to the coronavirus. Still, he has earned recognition by being named the UEFA Footballer of the Year and he has been tipped to bag FIFA’s Best Player award as well.

In a recent interview with Bild, Choupo Moting heaped praise on the Poland star by saying that he is the best player at the moment, he told: “When it comes to killer instinct, Lewandowski is currently number one [ahead of Neymar and Mbappe]. It’s crazy how often he scores. It’s not luck, it’s skill. He has rightly been named Europe’s Footballer of the Year. I can also copy one or two things from him: how he controls the ball and hits different types of shots. We immediately had a good relationship here.”

Lewandowski has continued his good form this term with 15 goals from just 14 appearances. Bayern are definitely favourites to go on to defend their Champions League crown, but it won’t be an easy task as experienced by many of the previous holders. Only Real Madrid have defended their trophy during the modern era of the Champions League. They managed to win on three occasions on the bounce between 2015 and 2018, but have since bowed out at the round of 16 stage in back-to-back seasons.
